民進黨總統參選人蔡英文10月將訪問日本，蔡英文23日被問到有關釣魚台主權爭議時表示，「釣魚台是台灣的，這件事是我們一貫的立場，我們到哪裡都講一樣的話。」
蔡英文23日展開3天「浪漫台三線」行程，爭取桃竹苗客家選票。蔡英文也宣示，將來執政後，絕對要確立客家語言就是國家語言之一，一定會創造下一個客家美好年代。
蔡英文也細數民進黨執政時期的客家政績，強調民進黨一直都是最重視客家的政黨。她說，台灣是多元族群的社會，「台灣話」絕對不是只有福佬話或閩南話一種語言。客家話、福佬話、華語、各個原住民族的語言，都是「台灣話」。
蔡英文強調，只有和解與包容，才會有真正團結的台灣；要看到彼此的差異，尊重彼此的多元，所有族群的語言，也都應該有平等的地位。
